Warriors Advance with 5-4 Win over North Pocono in 10 innings
May 25 - You might have expected a close game between the number 8 and 9 seeds (both 7 and 7) in the District II Playoffs--but this was about as exciting as it gets. In a back and forth game from the start, Wyoming Area and North Pocono played a nailbiter for 10 innings until Chris Murphy delieverd a single to right field scoring Trent Grove from second with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning.
Dylan Maloney was roughed up for two runs in the first inning as North Pocono came out swinging the bats. Maloney then settled down and pitched a gem. The Warriors took the lead 4-2 in the middle of the game. A two run double by Randy McDermott was a big blow. The Trojans scratched their way back, while the Warriors stranded men on base in the mid and later innings. The Warriors had a man on third with one out in three innings and couldn't get a run across.
The Trojans tied the game in the sixth at 4. Both teams had chances in extra innings, but it was Murphy's hit in the 10th that closed the deal for the Warriors.
Ron Klepadlo came in to pitch the top of the 10th for the Warriors. Ron walked the first man he faced, but then worked his way out of a jam to record a scoreless frame. The Warriors registered 12 hits. NIck O'Brien made a sparkling catch in certerfield in extra innings. P.J. Bone had three hits, with Chris Murphy, Kody Nowicki, and Trent Grove adding 2 hits each.
After a rugged first inning, Maloney was masterful as he got batters to chase his curve ball in the dirt in the late innings. Maloney struck out 8 batters and yielded 9 hits in 9 innings. He did not walk a batter.
The Warriors travel to Valley View on Friday to face the top seeded Cougars. Summary/Box.
