Warriors Playoff Hopes End with 6-2 Loss to Valley View
May 27 - When you're a number 8 seed playing a number 1 seed, you better bring your "A" game. Unfortunately, that didn't happen in the Warrior's District 2 quarterfinal playoff loss to Valley View.
Valley View showed why it is a number 1 seeed. Solid hitting, solid defense, and solid pitching. The Warriors, on the other hand, couldn't find their mojo at the plate or in the field.
Ron Klepadlo started for the Warriors and pitched well for 2 2/3 innings. Ron gave up two runs in the second and got in a jam in the third before being relieved by Chris Murphy. A couple of errors hurt the Warriors as they gave up a 4 spot in the third.
Meanwhile, the Warrior hitters couldn't figure out the Valley View pitcher, Cameon Damski. After three innings, the Warrior offense could only muster one ball out of the infield--a fly ball that was caught by the centerfielder.
Finally in the top of the fifth the Warrior offense showed signs of life. Kyle Colarusso singled up the middle to start off the inning. Nick O'Brien then fouled off a bunt attempt on his first pitch. On the next pitch, he belted a towering home run over the left centerfield fence, which cut the lead to 6-2. The next batter up, Trent Grove, hit a long fly ball to nearly the same spot--but about five feet short of the fence. For all intents and purposes--that was all the Warriors' offense could muster.
Chris Murphy pitched a great game in relief, giving up only two hits in 3 1/3 innings. Trent Grove hit the ball hard with a double. Trent also made some nifty defensive plays at third. Colarusso, Carey, Maloney, O'Brien, Grove, and Nowicki each had hits for the Warriors. Valley View only had six hits, but made the most of a Warrior defensive lapses.
